Hi.
While testing I've got iphone (non-jailbroken) which regularly attempts to send following sms to number 447537410247 (uk?): REG-REQ?v=3;t=C335D183C5A2FC0E2501543EBCEB8263D55683FB63A2E8CAF98B8874D940263F;r=165209558
without asking user for anything.
Is this some sort of Apple's backdoor? Or GCHQ is so bored that they are trying to spy on me? :) Have you guys seen this before?

Hello Max.
Are you using openbsc for intercept this information ? What procedure are you using to give that ? Openbsc, simtrace ?

Thanks! I especially like the "It's designed not too cost anything, if it does cost you anything, it will be something your carrier has set up." bit in the answer :-D :-D :-D

I have seen such messages with BlackBerries, trying to send a silent message to some shortcut phone number, like 73456. Even a SIM can do this via SIM toolkit.
On an OpenBTS demonstration in a place without any commercial coverage two subscribers started hammering onto my system, frantically trying to send something to the same German cellphone number. Guess it had to do with the quite expensive cars on the parking lot, seems two of them panicked and wanted to call for help, assuming that the strange MCC/MNC could mean being stolen :-)
Ralph.
