is there some wiki entry / detailed description of how to properly set up reporting to statsd for a set of given metrics (e.g. number of active users / bytes sent per user) on a per component granularity?

beyond what Pau described, I think we don't have any additional documentation.
However, should you create a related setup, we would much appreciate any of your additions to our documentation: Whether to the wiki (please self-register a user account and reach out privately to me to get write access) or as patches to the user manuals (pushed via git into our gerrit instance).
