Hello,
I need some help regarding configuration of 3rd party msc to the openbsc. I have seen the msc command in the openBSC terminal which I entered and felt like a profile creation for MSC's. But I got little confused doing it, can anyone provide me any documentation regarding basic connection that I need to do in order to get a up and running GSM network.
Thanks Anindya

The binary you are looking at would be osmo-bsc. During the current code refactoring we have two versions, one (old) osmo-bsc from openbsc.git using SCCPlite, and one (new) osmo-bsc from osmo-bsc.git using SCCP/M3UA.
There is no proper documentation for the new SCCP/M3UA yet, but you can examine configuration in the osmo-gsm-tester "aoip_*" runs on https://jenkins.osmocom.org/jenkins/view/osmo-gsm-tester/job/osmo-gsm-tester...
The old SCCPlite osmo-bsc should be documented at https://osmocom.org/projects/cellular-infrastructure/wiki/Osmocom_Manuals
Let me plug again that connecting osmo-bsc with a third-party MSC is likely to be non-trivial, and you may greatly benefit from professional support by one of the companies proficient in the Osmocom code base. Purchasing support is also a way of supporting ongoing development of the open Osmocom code base; e.g. the mail you are receiving now is made possible by my employer, sysmocom.de.

Hello,
I didnot build osmo-bsc from source rather I installed from ubuntu software centre. I believe its the old one. But can you tell me why do I dont see nothing when I try to filter pcap trace with SCCP, M2UA etc Can you tell me what I might be missing out here.
Thanks Anindya

Unless you are using osmo-bsc packages from https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/network:osmocom:nitb-split:nightly you are most definitely using SCCPlite, i.e. no M3UA and no SCTP.
See https://osmocom.org/projects/cellular-infrastructure/wiki/Nightly_Builds
We are still lacking in-depth (or any) documentation on the difference between SCCPlite and SCCP/M3UA.

Hello,
I have freshly built it again from source from the osmocom repositories and proceeded a little further and getting this folowing error.

Which is a bit weird, because 127.0.0.1 should be the default... Could you share your .cfg file?

Hello,
Ya sure I am attacking my cgf file , it would be also nice if you could send me a standard one or the one you are using so I can get some Idea.

Hi Anindya,
I can successfully start osmo-bsc with your config file. It connects to osmo-stp on 127.0.0.1 fine.
I can reproduce the "(null)" in my logs if I don't start osmo-stp. Are you sure that you've started osmo-stp?
An (unrelated) curiosity is that you have no BTS configured.

About that (null), it comes up due to interna of osmo_sock_init2(). The remote_host == NULL is passed to getaddrinfo(node) to yield the loopback interface, and error reporting does not bother to replace that NULL.

Hello,
Yes I did start osmo-stp but can you please tell me how to configure the osmo-stp port ? I am just thinking that maybe that is the reason why its not starting. By the way can you please share your cfg file, I would want to take a look at it and see if I am missing anything.
I also tried to configure * bsc-addr Calling Address (local address of this BSC)* inside *OsmoBSC(config-msc)#* but not sure what I must set the SCCP NAME as.
Thanks Anindya

all osmocom projects come with "reasonable" example configuration files, typically in the "doc/examples" folder. Starting osmo-bsc, osmo-msc and osmo-stp with those example configs on the same machine should render a setup in which BSC and MCS connect to the STP and can exchange BSSAP messages between them.
If you experience problems, please provide _proper_ reports, including your config files, the log/stderr output as well as a pcap protocol trace of the relevan communication (M3UA on loopback device in case of running all programs on one machine).
https://media.ccc.de/v/osmocon17-4008-reporting_and_investigating_issues_in_... also provides some help on what kind of information is required.
Hello,
I figured out my issue with the BSC to MSC link and have solved it, it was actually the OPC DPC that caused all of it. Now I am working on Blade RF (SDR) to build the bsc ... I have installed osmoSDR and now while I am building osmoBTS I am getting some missing packages. It is asking for libosmotrau which I understand why it wants it so I have installed libosmoabis but couldnot find libosmotrau as a separate package.. Can you please share me the libosmotrau package.
Thanks Anindya
