Dear List,
some entities in the GSM Industry seem to have started to discredit our efforts for an Open Source implementation of GSM protocols.
In order to prove them wrong and demonstrate the usefulness of OpenBSC, I would like to ask everyone who uses OpenBSC in a commercial or educational context (companies, universities, schools) to show their support by writing a letter of support.
This is a way how you can contribute back to the OpenBSC project, even without writing any code.
Simply put a couple of sentences on your letterhead where you explain that you use OpenBSC, and if or how you think it is a useful tool for your research and/or development.
I will collect those letters and forward them to those who try to discredit us, and if that is not sufficient, put the letters on the project homepage and take that dispute somewhat more public.
I'm looking forward to your letter.
Thanks for your support!
Hi Harald.
That is something i recently discoverd when i tryed to talk to one of my lecturers who works for a big BSS Equipment manufacturer.
I asked him if he know Harald Welte. "Who is Harald Welte" came back. As I started to explain about openBSC he said something like "This is not what we want, we want to sell our stuff!"
regards, Philipp

Hehe, this sounds like a conflict of interest. So his loyality is with the company he is working for (there is nothing wrong with that).
