This should be fixed now, there was a similar issue in rtl_test reported in our bugtracker. Can you verify that it builds with OS X?

In my case Ubuntu 18.04, but any Linux-distro with recent Kernel and libusb should work fine.

A good bug report always includes a verbatim copy of any compile errors. Feel free to post it here or to create an issue in the respective osmocom.org redmine sub-project

Almost all Osmocom developers primarily develop on various flavors of Linux. Ubuntu or Debian are typically a safe choice.

What was this built on?

It would greatly help if you would even specify what "this" is. Osmocom is a large project with many sub-projects. Even the SDR related projects discussed here are a few to choose from...
