SMS not received in mobile - Virtual layer1 (osmo-nitb + osmo-bts + osmocom-bb/mobile)
by Sebastian Stumpf 05 Jun '26

05 Jun '26

Hi, Some of my sent SMS are not received by my mobile and I try to figure out if this is a problem with my virtual layer 1, configuration or something in the layers 2+. I use: osmo-nitb: 1 subscriber in hlr (id 1, ext 017519191919) osmo-bts: virt-phy, arfcn 666, TS0=CCCH+SDCCH4, TS1=SDCCH8 MS layer23 app mobile: is the subscriber from osmo-nitb MS layer1 virt-phy: virtual gsmtap layer between bts and mobile I want: Send a sms to subscriber 017519191919. osmo-nitb VTY: OpenBSC# subscriber id 1 sms sender id 1 send Test I have 2 outcomes, first one is the failure. See https://www.dropbox.com/s/eunpfioq518t09a/mobile--ms-virt--bts-virt--bsc-ni… for the pcap. Do not wonder about the duplicated gsmtap messages from mobile, the ones to ip 225.0.0.1 are over virt-phy layer, the ones to localhost from the gsmtap logging option from mobile. Filter them out via "gsmtap && (ip.dst != 127.0.0.1)". 602-613: RR channel establishment with RA and IA as reaction to paging in 590 627,631: SABM from BTS to establish async balanced mode on SAPI3 (SMS) and the ACK from MS 656,684,699: I-Data frames on SAPI3 containing the sms 660,688,703: ReceiveReady's from MS (That ACK all I-frames before N(R)-1 as far as I understood) For me, that looks good and I really do not understand why the MS will not answer with the CP-ACK/RP-ACK after receiving the SMS Data in 699. The LAPDM link will stay up for some more time and be used by the network for retransmission of the sms (1149), but MS will never react to it on the SMS layer (CP-ACK, RP-ACK). Here is the console log for the mobile (https://www.dropbox.com/s/6gug5cd4up5qv7y/mobile--ms-virt--bts-virt--bsc-ni…) The paging is answered in line 378: Fri Mar 10 10:42:06 2017 DLLAPD <0012> lapd_core.c:793 SABM(E) received in state LAPD_STATE_IDLE Second outcome is a successfully sent sms from network to ms. See https://www.dropbox.com/s/ghdn7pc0j4vifbe/mobile--ms-virt--bts-virt--bsc-ni… for the pcap. What is different here? There is no paging, but the sms is sent within the dedicated channel used for the location update initiated by the phone started up. Why there is another outcome, I don't know. 169-181: RR channel establishment with RA and IA as part of mibiles startup routine to make location update 188,416: Location udpdate procedure on SAPI0 230,234: SABM from BTS to establish async balanced mode on SAPI3 (SMS) and the ACK from MS 396,444: I-Data frames on SAPI3 containing the sms 400,449: RR's from MS 450: CP-ACK for BTS 482,499: RP-ACK I-Frames for Network (osmo-nitb) Again, the console log of the mobile (https://www.dropbox.com/s/cujsn40d43g6wxk/mobile--ms-virt--bts-virt--bsc-ni…) The SABM on SAPI3 on downlink is received in line 206: Fri Mar 10 11:06:13 2017 DLLAPD <0012> lapd_core.c:793 SABM(E) received in state LAPD_STATE_IDLE The signaling looks quite similar in both cases, but one time the mobiles sms handler responds to CP-DATA msg containing the SMS, the other time not. Can someone find an error in the signaling I did not see? Is there a known Bug? To be honest, I last merged my branch with master some time ago (~ Jan 18 2017) and thus did not update osmo-nitb and the libraries since then to avoid compatibility problems. Have there been recent changes that could cause that behavior? Thank you and Kind Regards, Sebastian

How to Enjoy Store Management Games: A Guide Using Cookie Clicker as an Example
by victorious.mongoose.msbx＠hidesmail.net 20 Oct '25

20 Oct '25

Store management games have carved out a loyal space online thanks to their uniquely satisfying balance between strategy, progression, and relaxation. Whether you're simulating a bakery, running a futuristic factory, or managing a pixel-art shop, these games invite you to build, optimize, and steadily expand. One of the best and most accessible examples is Cookie Clicker, a game that turns a simple concept—baking cookies—into an intriguing, ever-expanding management challenge. https://cookieclickers.io/ In this article, we'll explore how to play and get the most out of Cookie Clicker. We’ll look at the game’s core mechanics, walk through gameplay strategies, highlight useful tips, and wrap up with thoughts on why this quirky game continues to win fans. So, whether you’re new to incremental games or revisiting them, read on! What is Cookie Clicker? Cookie Clicker is a browser-based incremental or "idle" game originally created by Julien Thiennot, aka Orteil. You start with a simple task: bake cookies by clicking a giant cookie on your screen. Each click gives you more cookies, which you can use to buy upgrades and buildings—transforming your one-cookie-at-a-time hobby into a monumental cookie empire. While it begins with just rapid-fire clicking, Cookie Clicker grows into a passive yet deeply strategic store management experience. The game’s popularity comes from its whimsical theme, sense of progression, and the addictive cycle of earning, reinvesting, and watching your cookie count grow beyond human comprehension. How Cookie Clicker Works: The Gameplay Loop At first glance, Cookie Clicker looks exceedingly simple. But give it a few minutes, and depth emerges. Here’s how the central gameplay unfolds: 1. Click for Cookies: The game starts with—you guessed it—clicking the giant cookie. Every click nets you a cookie. 2. Buy Buildings: Once you accumulate enough cookies, you can buy buildings like cursors, grandmas, farms, factories, and banks. Each building automatically generates cookies for you over time, meaning you don’t have to click as much. 3. Unlock Upgrades: Upgrades improve your cookie production in various ways, such as increasing the output of your buildings or making each click more powerful. 4. Progression and Prestige: As your cookie empire grows, you can unlock achievements, special upgrades, and even a "prestige" system that lets you restart with powerful bonuses—keeping things interesting for the long haul. 5. Events and Elements: Cookie Clicker often features seasonal events, random golden cookies (which grant big bonuses), and fun, unlockable content. What starts as a manual clicking chore becomes a gentle exercise in resource management, optimization, and planning. That's the essence shared by many beloved store management games. Tips for New and Returning Players Getting started with Cookie Clicker is easy, but making the most of it takes some know-how. Here are a few friendly tips: 1. Prioritize Building Upgrades As you progress, the cost of each new building rises quickly. Instead of saving up huge amounts for the newest building, consider upgrading your current infrastructure. Upgrades can give big multipliers to your production, which often pays off faster than a single expensive purchase. 2. Don’t Forget to Click Golden Cookies Keep an eye out for golden cookies that appear randomly. Clicking them grants bonuses—from showers of cookies to speed boosts. They’re a fun little reward for attentive players and can make a huge difference, especially early on. 3. Use Your Prestige Wisely When you reach a certain number of cookies baked, you unlock the prestige system. This lets you "ascend"—resetting your progress but giving you heavenly chips that can be spent on permanent upgrades. It’s worth prestiging as soon as the benefits outweigh the time required to reach your previous peak again. 4. Experiment With Strategies There’s no single "right" way to play Cookie Clicker. Try focusing on click upgrades, automating production with more buildings, or aiming for achievements that give hidden bonuses. Mix and match to find a path that feels satisfying. 5. Let the Game Idle Part of the joy of Cookie Clicker is letting it do its thing while you work, study, or browse the web. Setting up effective production lets your cookies accrue passively, bringing a nice sense of reward when you return. 6. Keep an Eye on Seasonal Events Many incremental games, including Cookie Clicker, feature special events around holidays. These often bring unique upgrades or buildings you can’t get at other times, so check in when events are live. Why Play Cookie Clicker and Store Management Games? Cookie Clicker isn’t just about cookies—it’s a clever reflection of what makes store management games so satisfying. You start with something small, shape it through choices, and witness the exponential growth of your efforts. There's always something new to upgrade, a better strategy to try, and a weird achievement to unlock. These games are as relaxed or deep as you want them to be. You can dip in for a few minutes a day or dive deep into advanced optimization and community discussions. Conclusion Cookie Clicker and other store management games offer a gentle, rewarding way to unwind while flexing your strategic mind. Their appeal comes from both their simplicity and their hidden depth; you’re always just a few clicks away from your next big milestone. If you haven’t tried Cookie Clicker yet, visit Cookie Clicker and see how far you can grow your cookie empire. You might be surprised by how much fun, strategy, and satisfaction lie just beneath the surface of this sweet little game. Happy clicking!
