Hi
I am on the hunt for a Calypso phone that isn't functional for whatever reason for the purpose of de-capping and photographing the Calypso/Iota/Rita ICs that a friendly individual would be able to do. This isn't something important, but the pictures would definitely be entertaining to look at. Of course somebody could donate a working phone to the cause, including myself, but a specimen that doesn't serve any other purpose anymore would be ideal. If you are in possession of such a phone, please let me know.
Thanks, -Alex^Wblackbit

Isn’t there already such a photo posted here?

as part of this wiki page: https://osmocom.org/projects/baseband/wiki/MotorolaC123
and also: http://www.steve-m.de/pictures/compal_e88/
Two links on that MotorolaC123 are dead it seems: https://osmocom.org/projects/baseband/wiki/MotorolaC123PCB?parent=MotorolaC1... and http://laforge.gnumonks.org/photoalbum/devices/motorola_compal/c123
I am surprised no one else has piped up with a response to the list. I probably have a few rather dead calypso phones I could take better? pictures of for you. :)

Those are pictures of mobile phone circuit boards[1].
What I am after are pictures that show the little silicon dies inside the IC packages that are soldered to those circuit boards.
To achieve that, you must (1) Open the IC packages (2) Use a (suitable) microscope to look at the exposed dies
See e.g. [2,3].
I myself do not have the required skills or equipment to do so, but thankfully people have spoken up who can help.

Thanks for the offer, but donor phone sourcing has already been taken care of. One deal I got on kleinanzeigen.de was pretty convincing. The phone itself was free because the display damaged. Shipping to one of the decapping specialists was € 4.00. It's difficult to beat that.
That is all volunteer work, so it might take a bit of time before we can admire some nice pictures. I'll report back once there are news to share.

Actually, I just realized: it doesn't have to be a phone! Sysmocom has a *large* quantity of Huawei GTM900 modules. I can certainly send you one of those.
