Hello techies.
Is there a big difference between ft232 and max232? I have taken apart this cable : http://www.cellcorner.com/xshp/unlock-phone-codes/motorola-t190-t191-t193-un... and a picture is attached. By the way, the pinout and voltage (+4v) doesn't seem to match so I'd like to solder it the proper way..Any advise welcome.
Cheers.

FT232 is USB <-> RS232 (5Vpp)
MAX232 is RS232 (5Vpp) <-> RS232 (12Vpp)
Best regards, Maciej Grela
Hi,
If you're thinking of the FTDI ft232, then the little difference is that this chip is an USB-serial bridge, while the MAX232 is just a level translator that requires a plain old serial port.
BTW, thanks for the gigantically huge attachement; I guess a 2MB , 3264x1952 jpeg is absolutely required to show your max232 cable.
Regards, Sebastien

Eheheheh I did the same when I was frustrated because the cable I bought from cellcorner wasn't working! Not that I had any hope to fix it or understand it :(( However, as I have already said the problem was the jack not fitting properly in, if you have the same problem, just cut off a bit of plastic, now it's my favourite cable ;))
