Hey guys
I've been noticing the neverending stream of serial cable issues popping up here.
To end this, I have a suggestion: how about checking the cable type via sysfs?

good idea. I would definitely merge such a patch, considering that it has appropriate #ifdef's around to make sure we don't break cygwin/osX/bsd builds.
