Fascinating stuff so I think its on-topic ;-)

I think its a bit emotive to suggest that someone is "snooping" on
"private" communications if those communications are broadcast in the
clear. If someone has a flawed perception of their security then
legislation that reinforces that flawed perception is doing nobody any
favours.
