The "max" branch of OP25 (rx.py) has evolved beyond the wx gui tools, and as such may work fine without needing to be tweaked. I can personally attest that it works great on Ubuntu 16.04, but I haven't yet tried a later version of Gnuradio. Sounds like something to investigate.
