Hi all!
Thanks again for everyone attending OsmoDevCon, particularly to everyone who contributed to the event by a presentation or discussion.
It is always a huge pleasure to meet all of you once per year at OsmoDevCon, and I hope we can continue that tradition for a long time to come.
In terms of improvements for the next event:
1) "Framework Schedule"
I think we should move towards a more defined "framework schedule".
What was a bit sad this time was for example that we had quite a number of topics (like the talks on the Globalstar signal decode including the details on its PHY, or the OsmocomBB SDR PHY, which would have been great to have Tom Tsou's feedback on - but where he didn't attend.
This is of course not particularly about Tom, but the fundamental "problem" is that we are covering a wide range of topics from electronics to SDR to physical layers all the way up to the core network, and that not even limited to one particular system/technology. And even while everyone might be interested in all of that (I am!), not everyone is able to follow the discussions in depth, or simply have the time to attend all of that.
So in the future, I think we should all make a better effort to submit talks/topics in advance, and schedule them either completely (like a regular conference with a pre-defined schedule), or at least schedule them on days. So that we will have e.g. a "SDR + PHY + Satellite day" or something like that, where then all related topics are, and people with specific focus area can attend that. Equally, a "GSM/UMTS RAN+CN day" and a "Miscellaneous day" or the like.
What do you think of the above proposal?
2) "Make use of multiple rooms"
Right now we're not really using the second "front room" for anything but storing luggage. The idea would be to leave the large table in there and have it as a "hackcenter" where people can simply work on their projects (and talk about it) even while talks are going on next door. This way we can also fit some more chairs into the main room (due to less table space.
We could of course also search for another venue, which is larger and has more rooms which allows for some growth, but then as indicated we don't really have that many more applications of people to attend OsmoDevCon so far.
What are your thoughts on this?
