How does the phone know if it is roaming or not? When my phone camps to OpenBTS network it says it is roaming but in OpenBSC it doesn't.
I wonder what makes such difference

Are you running OpenBSC and OpenBTS with the same phone, same simcard oon the same MCC/MNC? Then you should not see any difference.
They only way a phone knows is if the MCC/MNC of the IMSI in the SIM is identical with the MCC/MNC of the serving cell.
One of my feature phone does not open Roaming Manager. It says it can only be opened while roaming although I used MCC/MNC that the phone does not recognize
