Well, I'd say there will be plenty of connectors. The LCD (even on the compal/motorola phones) is just attached to I2C (plus the backlight pwm). And the keypad is just the matrix. We _may_ actually be able to put the circular "button" footprint for something like the C123 keypad on the back side of the PCB, as so far this is "only" a ground plane. Depends a bit on the effort, and where/how somebody could source those thin membrane keyboards.
