The SIMtrae project is a collaborative, community based project. Anyone
can extend it as they want, the full source code to the firmware is
published.
The flash chip on the device indeed was intended for persistent storage
of logs, so you can capture data without a USB host attached, and then
later read it out. However, nobody seems to have been interestd enough
yet to contribute this feature.
