I don't think either is completely true. Best to study the interfaces of the open source software components in detail. Note that since this is open source software and not a commercial product you have to educate yourself using what is available, and you may have to create your own documentation after you have. An alternative may be to buy training services, but if you plan to work on the project and to make it more scalable then I think it's a good idea to learn by doing. //Peter
