There appear to be a lot of people using Linux Mint as the distribution of choice. However, being based off Ubuntu it also includes the bloat that has crept into Ubuntu recently. Personally I prefer to use Debian which is the parent of Ubuntu. It is more simplistic in my view and doesn't have the fluff of Ubuntu using extra system resources. I did have an issue recently where I could not fully compile OP25 on Debian 7 because wxpython 2.8 would break when installing via pybombs. Simply installing it manually via apt-get allowed gnuradio and OP25 to build without issue.
