For such a distance you need special amplifiers and antennas. It works as Stuart said, he told that from his experience.

Surely not 24 amplifiers off one BTS though.
I would have thought the noise floor would have gone through the roof and ruined performance.
Rough, finger in the air guessing, I would say more than a few amps per cell/sector would be enough.
