    sorry for the delay, now getting back to having a look at this. I now realize we haven't seen this problem as it only shows up on the actual simtrace2 device, since QMOD/OWHW/... have switches in front of the UART: if set to "local' SIM mode, the SAM3 UART is not connected. Only the SIMtrace2 device has the "older" architecture.
