    hm that's true, what naming do you suggest?

    you changed is_cmc_smc_required -> try_cmc_smc.
    What about is_cmc_smc_required -> is_cmc_smc_to_be_requested?
    Or "is_cmc_smc_to_be_attempted".
    I know they are long but they are far more understandable.
