    shouldn't you still read and discard the messages if "g_pars. […]

    What would be the benefit? e.g. fail_on_dlcx also doesn't discard the message and just leaves it in the queue.

    If possible, I'd rather just leave this as-is because working on #5787 has already taken way longer than initially assumed.
