    @pespin - then how come none of the protocol constant definitions in <osmocom/gsm/protocol/gsm_XX_XX.h> begin with osmo_ or OSMO_?

    because they are "wrong" :D They were added a long time ago before we started prefixing everything as osmo_*, and we cannot change them nowadays in order to keep backward compatibility of the API/ABI. So in some files we use some prefixes other than osmo_*.
