I have never been interested in a VM of it, cause there was never a need to do it that way.Its not like I'm unfamiliar with VMware workstation or player(which was free at one time), cause I do run it also but not even as much as I did in the past.I never got the performance of a radio in VM as I did in a straight up system. 
Virtualbox sucked, and VMware workstaion works good. It was the throughput that hindered my system.So its straight linux or windows for me.
But the recipe for pybombs install has worked good for me.I think my first trys with OP-25 was with Ubuntu 12.04, so been fooling with Linux for awhile.Linux is my preferred operating system, but I'm forced to pay for my Windows to run Unitrunker, SDR#, DSDPlus, Sentinels. 
If you're trying to do this in VM, cool I guess but I've banged my head against the wall plenty,lol.Don
P.S. You know what I'll go do it, OP-25 in VMworkstation in Win10 and see where I get suck. ok Wish me Luck. From the desk of, Don Adams

I trued installing again via pybombs on kali and terminlal shows it as succesful but now grc wont open at all
I never quite get there, been workin on installin op25 for about a year now
