IIUC templates can't be built like that, but am not 100% sure; just know i tried something like that in a different version of the patch and ttcn3 complained about something that would have worked with a plain record, but didn't with a template.

But also i don't mind using some more lines to save development time in this case,
things are already taking a multiple of the estimated effort...
