Ah, cmake is so different...
- it's better to have the source path in the end:
cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$prefix ../
- CC / CXX and CFLAGS / CXXFLAGS variables need to be set before calling cmake:
CC=clang CXX=clang++ cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$prefix ../
