I'm not setting /proc/sys/net/ip_forward because apparently it is already set somehow to 1 and I didn't require doing it. Maybe we have some file manually in there already enabled, I'll check. Or maybe it's enabled by default in debian because anyway iptables default forward policy to drop makes the trick.
